MDRR Successfully Completes Trials with Hydrogen Fuel Collection Trucks

Concord, CA: November 20, 2024 – Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery is thrilled to announce the successful completion of a trial program for hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). This innovative collaboration involved partners Hyzon and New Way® Trucks. If you spotted this hydrogen FCEV collection truck in your area, you witnessed cutting-edge sustainable technology in action.

The trial evaluated a hydrogen-powered vehicle on routes within specific collection areas, including Concord, Pittsburg, Oakley, Rio Vista, and certain parts of unincorporated Contra Costa County. This represents a significant milestone in the development of sustainable transportation and the progression towards zero-emission technology.

This advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology converts hydrogen into electricity without producing harmful exhaust emissions—its only byproduct is water. The benefits are remarkable: these new trucks offer higher fuel efficiency, reduced fuel costs, and quieter operation compared to traditional diesel trucks.

“We are relentless about innovation to transform the way we manage waste and recycling to maximize our environmental and financial performance,” said Kish Rajan, CEO of Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery. “This pilot program is yet another example of what sets MDRR apart.”
